Happy Hemp Farmacy loves animals like so many of you! It’s no wonder why we get asked can I give CBD to my pets on a regular basis.
Whether you’re a cat person or a dog person or even a pet rock person(we don’t judge) — there’s something about having the love and affection of another creature that brings out the best in us. You know what I’m talking about if your house is covered in fur and littered with chew or scratch toys.
Why should we give CBD to our pets?
Since our pets can become close family members, we want the best for them and their health. CBD could actually help them live healthier and happier lives.
With the increased interest in CBD, a lot of research has been conducted into how it affects our fluffy companions. But using CBD for pets can be a tricky subject as well. This makes the question of can I give CBD to my pets challenging.
Pets can be harder to diagnose, and not all of the effects of CBD are known. A study in 2018 has found that Cannabidiol treatment has proven to give comfort to dogs with osteoarthritis. Another study was conducted, which has shown that CBD is also helpful for dogs with epilepsy. If you’re interested, you can read all the facts about CBD and animal studies in this 2017 World Health Organization report.
Are there any concerns or dangers in giving my pets CBD?
Yes and no. Every animal, like every person, is different.
CBD, in its natural form, is harmless to animals. With CBD on the rise, however, there is a threat of lower-quality ingredients in CBD products. THC is toxic to both cats and dogs, but legally-speaking CBD should not be above 0.3% THC level, which is considered safe for pets. Make sure that you are buying products from a legitimate company with visible lab results. As an example, we publish all of our lab results. Always be on the lookout for symptoms of THC poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, restlessness, and trouble standing. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian before the use of CBD.
So can I give CBD to my pets?
While there are so many differing opinions on treating animals with CBD products, Happy Hemp Farmacy believes it’s worth trying but we also recommend discussing the options with your veterinarian. We’ve even partnered with non-profits like the Chattanooga Humane Educational Society to help provide animals with these resources.
As you can imagine, the shelter environment can be overwhelming at times for the animals in its care. CBD could provide therapeutic benefits to dogs and cats in this situation, helping to reduce anxiety during their stay. We’ve worked with Chattanooga HES to raise awareness for the program.
Our animals mean the world to us, so it’s up to us to do as much as we can to give them a comfortable, enjoyable life!
